Spring beach retreat

LEAF went on its first retreat this past weekend. We traveled to Oak Island and spent 2 nights there. Pastor David led sessions based on the beatitudes. Thankfully, we had great weather the whole time there and were able to spend Saturday lounging at the beach!

For Roots this week, Pastor David and seven students traveled to Loaves and Fishes in Burlington. We packed bags full of food which were to go out to needy families in the area. We had a lot of fun seeing just how much we could pack into our paper bags!

Christmas at Pastor Weinbach’s Home

Just as Pastor Weinbach does every semester during finals, LEAF is invited to the Weinbach home for a dinner party. The food was absolutely delicious and conversation was wonderful.

Reading Day cookie baking

Every reading day, LEAF gets together and bakes cookies to hand out later that night to those studying in the Belk library. Finals are a crazy time, and LEAF tries to help relieve some of that stress.

Here are some photos from a couple of weeks back, courtesy of our trigger-happy Faculty Advisor, Larry Vellani (his Flickr site seems to have multiple thousands of photos!) We had lots of students sign up and met many interesting folks, so the afternoon was a definite success! We still have a gazillion LEAF magnets left over, though, so ask and you shall receive!

Hello Everyone!

This is our new website for LEAF (Lutherans, Episcopalians, and Friends) a religious life organization at Elon University in North Carolina. We are a young organization (this is only our third year!) but this is also our first year as an officially approved campus organization. We started off only a short time ago, but we are continuing to grow as an organization and as a family!

LEAF is an organization based out of the Lutheran and Episcopalian traditions, but we invite individuals of any denomination, faith, or no faith at all to be a part (hence the “Friends!”) We hold a weekly service in Holt Chapel @ 5pm on South Campus every Sunday, followed by food and fellowship after the service (with home-cooked meals provided by local churches). We have recently welcomed Pastor David Olson to our family, a Lutheran minister who is now serving as LEAF’s part-time pastor/chaplain. David leads us in worship each Sunday and will soon have an office in the Truitt Center for Religious and Spiritual Life. We are excited to have David join our community as LEAF continues to grow.

LEAF also endeavors to serve as positive force in campus life and the local community. Now that we are an official organization we hope this role will continue to develop as we serve alongside the Truitt Center and other religious life organizations on campus, assist the local community through service work, and ultimately participate in mission trips and other long-term pursuits.

We have a long way to go, but we are excited about what the future holds. We hope you will join us on our journey. Peace!
