The Rev. Courtney Davis-Shoemaker currently serves as the campus minister for Lutherans, Episcopalians, and Friends (LEAF) at Elon University.
A native of Rome, Georgia Courtney attended college at Dickinson College in Pennsylvania. After graduating in 1997, she moved to Colorado and worked as a cook on a dude ranch and later as a hotel front desk attendant in Vail. She then began planning corporate events for a destination travel company in that area. In 2001 she moved to Boston where she planned special events for a capital campaign at Trinity Church in Copley Square. She then served three years as a development officer for the U.S. Fund for UNICEF. Through her work in event planning and fundraising she developed a love fostering community and creating environments to nourish spiritual growth and formation. An Episcopalian since childhood, she began seminary in 2005 at the General Theological Seminary in Manhattan.
Courtney was ordained a priest in 2009 and has served parishes in North Carolina and Massachusetts. Her husband, the Rev. Adam Shoemaker, is rector at The Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter. They live in Burlington with their son, Malcolm. Courtney enjoys reading, traveling and spending time with her family.
