Lutherans, Episcopalians, and Friends
An Inclusive Christian Community at Elon University
We are followers of Jesus Christ, and we believe in God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. Whether you have been a member of a church for years, are beginning to explore your relationship to faith, and or are just looking for a place to ask questions as a believer, doubter, seeker, or skeptic all are welcome in the LEAF community!
We strive to love our neighbors as ourselves and respect the dignity of every person regardless of race, creed, gender, LGBT+ status, or faith tradition. We are an open and affirming community.
Our worship incorporates ancient structures and traditions of the Lutheran and Episcopal churches, and we are proud to create a place for eccumenical Christian worship each week. We come together to sing songs of praise, listen to scripture, hear reflections from a variety of people, offer prayers, and share communion.
Communion, in our tradition, is also referred to as the Holy Eucharist. It is a meal of bread and wine, and for Christians, this practice nourishes us to go out into the world to act as Jesus’ disciples. All are welcome to receive communion.
We are rooted in Scripture and strive to live out the Good News of Jesus Christ as proclaimed in the gospels. When reading Scripture, we look at the historical context and understand the Bible to be the inspired word of God, written and transcribed by many authors. Holy Scripture is the record of the drama of God’s saving care of creation throughout the course of history.
Our faith gives us the freedom and the courage to question, wonder, discover and boldly participate in what God is doing in the world today.
We recognize that we are called to act as Jesus’ hands and feet in the world, caring for God’s creation, striving for peace and justice, and sharing God’s love among all people.
If you would like to know our beliefs around a variety of 21st century questions, we welcome the opportunity to talk more with you in a truly safe, nonjudgemental environment.
